Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at correcting the shape, position, or size of the ears. It is often performed to correct protruding ears (prominent ears) or to address congenital or trauma-related abnormalities.
Benefits of Otoplasty:
Improves the aesthetic symmetry of the ears.
Increases the patient’s confidence.
Corrects congenital abnormalities or acquired deformities.
The procedure is safe and provides immediate results.
This procedure corrects the size and shape of the ears according to the patient's desires.
This technique is applied when it is necessary to restore the entire ear or a portion of it.
Aesthetic Otoplasty
Types of Procedures:
Corrective (Reconstructive) Otoplasty
Since the human ear is composed primarily of cartilage, the majority of the otoplasty procedure focuses on it, while also intervening in the soft tissues (skin). Based on this, two types of procedures are distinguished:
How the procedure is performed
Detailed examination and analysis of ear structure.
Discussion of expectations and selection of the appropriate technique.
Instructions regarding medications and diet before the surgery.
The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation.
Small incision behind the ear.
Reshaping of the cartilage to create the desired form.
Stabilization of the ear in its new position using special sutures.
Closure of the incision with absorbable stitches.
Recovery After the Procedure
The patient leaves the clinic with a bandage around the head to protect the ears and maintain their new shape.
Mild pain, swelling, or bruising is normal and can be managed with simple painkillers.
Contact with water should be avoided, and the surgeon’s instructions must be followed strictly.
After 3–5 days, the bandage is removed and replaced with an elastic headband (ideally worn all day for the first week, then only at night for several weeks).
The patient can return to light daily activities within a few days but should avoid strenuous physical activity.
Sutures (if not absorbable) are removed approximately 7–10 days after surgery.
Swelling gradually subsides, and final results become more visible.
Continued use of the headband at night is recommended for approximately 4–6 weeks.
Full recovery and stabilization of the ear shape are usually completed within 2–3 months.
